Edgar Wright has quickly become one of my favorite filmmakers. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World was one of my favorite films of 2010, and as I tell anyone who’ll listen, it’s use of genre mash-ups, video game references, motion graphics, and visual effects will be a touchstone film for the internet generation who are just now forming their aesthetic.
He’s truly an exceptional filmmaker, and one who freely shares his techniques, methods, and thought process on all his films through incredible behind the scenes videos and commentaries.
Here in collaboration with David Chen at Slash Film, Mr. Wright dishes on his infamous close-up “tooling up” sequences used to fantastic effect in Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim, and The World’s End.
Watch, learn, and if you haven’t seen his films, do so immediately.
