Posted on 20 June 2006

Mike from HD For Indies linked up to this pretty cool video of how they created a new performance from Marlon Brando in Superman Returns using old footage from the original Superman remapped on a 3D model. Pretty amazing stuff and they even show the stumbling blocks they came across on the way. Continue Reading

Working with Multiple Aspect Ratios in FCP

Posted on 14 June 2006

So now you’ve shot widescreen, but you have to mix it with 4:3 video. What do you do? Well if you use Final Cut Pro there’s a nice video tutorial I found while on HD For Indies blog. While this if for Final Cut Pro, the principle applies to all NLE’s though they may use [...] Continue Reading

Why 16:9?

Posted on 09 June 2006

Now that you know that widescreen is better, I know you’re out trolling for the best price on that shiny new HDTV you’ve had your eye on. But you’re wondering why does it have a 16:9 (or 1.78) aspect ratio? I mean if film Aspect ratios are 1.85 and 2.35, why aren’t HDTV’s 1.85? The [...] Continue Reading

Wider is Better

Posted on 09 June 2006

I love widescreen films. When I was a teen-ager I was a projectionist for a small 2nd run movie theater. A “scope” film is [...] Continue Reading

Posted on 06 June 2006

Some people define themselves by their titles as writers or directors or editors or producers. Others like to broaden their scope and take on additional titles to maintain creative control or as often the case in indie films to fill a gap that may be missing. These folks use hyphenates like writer-director. Others take that [...] Continue Reading

Fire Good

Posted on 06 June 2006

I had a busy weekend. While most people in Los Angeles were trying to get cool in the first scorching hot weekend of the summer, I found myself standing next to a 25 foot fireball, instead of standing naked in front of the air conditioning. Not once mind you, but 90 some odd times [...] Continue Reading

Miss the Loach

Posted on 02 June 2006

Keeping going with my collaboration theme today, I’d be remiss if I didn’t spend a little time to talk about the Loach. Co-writer and director of GLAZED, producer of INHERITANCE, and co-founder of NOT AFRAID! Jeff Loach and I were writing and producing partners since 1998 when we formed Not Afraid! As true collaborators we practiced [...] Continue Reading

Love the Doug

Posted on 02 June 2006

Speaking of collaboration, I just wanted to give a shout out to one of my frequent collaborators, Doug Delaney. He shot both Inheritance, and Glazed, as well as my new project which for now will remain nameless. Doug still manages to find the time to collaborate with me, even while moving up the Hollywood [...] Continue Reading
