Recreating Brando in Superman Returns

Mike from HD For Indies linked up to this pretty cool video of how they created a new performance from Marlon Brando in Superman Returns using old footage from the original Superman remapped on a 3D model. Pretty amazing stuff and they even show the stumbling blocks they came across on the way.

Following up on the Digital Cinematography angle, and the Panavision Genesis. The upcoming Superman Returns was filmed with that camera. Post Magazine has an article that discusses the entire digital workflow.

Now that you know that widescreen is better, I know you’re out trolling for the best price on that shiny new HDTV you’ve had your eye on. But you’re wondering why does it have a 16:9 (or 1.78) aspect ratio?
I mean if film Aspect ratios are 1.85 and 2.35, why aren’t HDTV’s 1.85?
